Today, two of our Undergraduate researchers, Elixiva Marcum and Sydney Morabbi, presented at the OSU Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Elixiva and Sydney have been working together in the laboratory on a project where they have been screening bacterial isolates from people with cystic fibrosis for antimicrobial activity. From their efforts, they have screened over 1,000 isolates! In their poster “Using Microbial Competition in the Cystic Fibrosis Lung to Identify Antibiotic Activity”, they discussed the lab’s previous work generating the collection, their work screening the collection, and some preliminary experiments to extract the active compounds made by their CF isolates. Good job!

Elixiva will be graduating soon and moving on to new things, while Sydney is going to take a much deserved break and will be returning this Fall to work on her project!
